G'day Buzzo Don't know how set you are on the dates , but i would be pretty sure you wud get more interest if you started after the end of the Finke desert race judging from the amount of them traveling crossing the desert last year .

Yeah I stuffed that up somehow. Unfortunately my missus has booked her time off now. I was thinking earlier would be better. We did the Simpson last year and it was pretty chopped up.
I'll have to look at the dates for all the events again. I can go across week or so earlier if I give Ayers
Rock a miss, but that's about the only option.

The finke desert race return leg is on 11th june Queens birthday long weekend
have you got your permit for the madigan ? if so how long did that take ?

I've only just applied for the Central Land Council permit. Will get onto Adria Downs and Queensland National Parks shortly.

I may be interested in this? I was looking at doing a Simpson crossing towards the end of June, but may be able to bring it forward?

Well your the first. Lol. Unfortunately I've gone about this all wrong I should have asked if there was any interest in a crossing and then set the date. I'm locked into starting our holidays on the 21/05/18 from
Brisbane. We were going to take our time and go to Ayres
Rock first and the start the Madigan around the 5/6/18. We can forget about
the rock and bring the crossing forward to miss the start of the Finke Desert race but that's about all unfortunately.
I've been calling the Central Land Council daily just to make sure I've filled the entry permit out correctly but can't get hold of anyone ( I did miss a return call but rang back shortly after but again no one). So If you do decide to go you'll have to allow plenty of time to obtain one.

I've had that problem with the CLC before on another trip. In the end we decided to go anyway as we had done all that was req'd of us, we took receipts, bank statements etc in case we were challenged at any point.
We didn't see a soul all trip.

I received my permit from the Central Land Council today. For some reason my application never went through even though I had an application number. After leaving a few messages and missing a few return calls once I got through it was sorted out straight away. Took just over a week.. Excellent.
