I'm interested in a caravan offered for private sale in SA. The van is still registered in QLD.
Is there any way to check van status? (stolen, money owed, etc)
Many thanks in advance.

Suppose you could try Revcheck? Don't recall the cost?

Also there is a free app called "Qld Rego Check" that should give you some details, such as VIN & rego expiry date, but won't give any other personal details.

Think there is also a Facebook page or two devoted to stolen caravans. Sorry don't know what they are called but you always try stolen caravans Qld, or something like that.

Try Qld Transport Check registration status .

I've called Qld Police armed with a chassis number and a rego number to ask if a vehicle has been reported stolen and they have looked it up on the system.

REVs is the other one. It will tell you if there is any money owing on it, all for the princly sum of $3.40

HI
The rego obviously will need to be changed by the current owner to SA rego. He will need it to go over the pits . Then the van sold to u .

To purchase a Qld rego current owner will need a Qld roadworthy [inspected in Qld] . That's not gunna happen !!

The only other way to buy is if the car/van is unregistered and you get a receipt. Then rego in SA still requiring an inspection . May also require the gas be inspected seperately dunno .

Thanks for everyone's reply.
Ive asked to owner if he would transfer rego prior to purchase. I'm guessing this would be the best and safest option in regards to ownership and roadworthiness.

I am a bit wary as the off road van is priced close to $20K under similar vans for sale.

Does not the owner of a Qld caravan need to have a current roadworthy certificate before he can advertise a van for sale? That would allow the new owner to transfer the registration into his name, take it to wherever and do what is needed for the permanent registration.

In Qld, you must have a current roadworthy certificate and gas certificate to sell the van.

I have advertised a van without a roadworthy or gas cert, I then got them when a person indicated he would buy the van. Illegal maybe. but no one checks and in the end the certificates were produced for rego transfer.

If you take your interstate registered vehicle into SA and it is registered in your name you do not have to take it to be inspected. Just head to Transport SA with your rego certificate, I.D and a whole heap of money.
