A couple of linear actuators would do the job

Unless the camper was designed to do it, and you know exactly what you are doing, I would say that it will be very unreliable if it works at all.

Thanks Tony - there are quite a few out there that are factory fitted so I thought an aftermarket one would be doable.

Are you wishing to have a " press button" auto opening or some form of assisted opening such as gas struts.

Yes, using gas struts. I have seen them on the newer camper trailers which are operated by a switch or remote control. I am not tall or strong enough (a short female) to open it by myself.

Maybe approach one of the manufacturers that do it and see if they can retrofit to your unit. Eg Pioneer in Melbourne. Speak to Andrew.

I agree with Sigmund. Installation of appropriate gas struts, that will reduce your effort, to lift the fold out should be able to be done. It will probably require some modifications to your camper to provide strong mounting points for the struts. Good luck with your search for a good installer. Interested to hear the result.

so how do gas struts become 'automatic'?

As already stated you will linear actuators which are a motorised unit so you can have it lower itself as well as open. Struts only open.

Consider how you will operate it all if the linacs, struts or whatever else you decide on fail. Needs a fall back solution.
