Now that's an interesting title 'E Pilbara shire tourism officer' ?

I have lived in the East Pilbara for close to 30 years and this is the first time I've ever read or heard this title given to or used by anyone connected to the East Pilbara shire.

I'll have a forage into this 'tourism officer' title holder and if it is fair dinkum, I'll be astounded but I will let you know.

Duncan W ~ as for your question on Carawine Gorge and any notable damage caused by seasonal high water flows or from Cyclonic deluges which adversely effect the Oakover River, your best bet for precise information would be from the Mill's family who are the lease holders of Warrawagine Station ~ Carawine Gorge is part and parcel of their property. I know for a fact there was substantial damage to old growth vegetation in Carawine Gorge and along the Oakover into the DeGrey River back in the 1999/2000 wet season, it has never been the same ~ I would have to go back into my journals to name the series of Cyclones the dumped over 1035 mils at the time.

EP tourism officer? Maybe a made up position for a friend/rellie of a councillor as plenty of that goes on but mostly in city councils.
Yes Carawine has certainly changed from when I went there first from Telfer in about '80 - 81.
Many of the massive trees have long gone but it's still a nice place to go. Beware of the shale at the bottom of the track, better to turn right at the end of the runway and follow the track round that way.
The Mills family ask only that you clean up after you to keep it nice. Be aware that mustering is held there but they will put up signs advising travellers when that's happening.

I doubt that she would call herself something as grand as the "East Pilbara shire tourism officer" but a friend is working part time helping with tourist information at the shire office in Marble Bar.

Her gig ends in September.
