G;Day John ~ wife just got me HX1 (birthday.). at bit over $600 best investment
We just did the simpson desert & it was so easy to use ~large touch screen ....
I looked at them at the camping show & for me the newer HX1 was a better unit.

I just use the Hema Explorer App. Three years outback travel and it hasn't let me down. I have it on my phone and my Galaxy Tab. I do only use it for mapping only

Hi John

I currently own a HN7 and think it is great.

I have not seen or used the new HX1 and was a little spectical when it was released with the ability of not being able to add other Topo maps.

I have been following some of Hema's blogs and now I know why you can not do it.....there is no need to.

One one of their latest bogs, you can go to there 150k map and then select an area where you want better detail. You then simply highlight the area and depending where it is, download for free all the extra very detailed maps, with some down to as low as 1:7k which is just unreal.

This feature alone will save you hundreds of dollars without the need to purchase more detailed maps.

I know Hema are doing super deals on the HN7, with free postage and free visor for $449.

Cheers

Hi John m85, if you are considering buying a Hema GPS I suggest you look closely at the HX1. I have had a HN7 since 2014 and if has been invaluable but Hema are breaking away from Oziexploer and WindowsCE (which is what underpins the HN7) and toward an Android base system ie the HX1. It is much more than that. They are also moving away from raster mapping and adopting their own multi-layer mapping solution. THe switch to Hema Explorer for IOS and Andriod platforms means that in future trip planning will be easier combined with the HX1. You also get an extra 12 mths of free map updates for the street gps.

I would now only use Hema maps if there was nothing else. Too many inaccuracies.

Have given them a good run - Navigator 5, Explorer on Android (with 150 topo, 4WD maps and HERE maps) and a bundle of paper maps.

Had high hopes of the new 150 Ks but having used them outback, Vic high country and S coast NSW, it's become a grim comedy to compare them with Hema's other maps and those by Natmap, Vicmap, Westprint and Oztopo.

Yeah, I'm a map tragic.

No map is fully accurate. But Hema will get you in the poo quicker than the others. (That's if you use them for navigation where there are no signs.)
